Drivers News update and Fixture Information
Last Updated: 09/06/2019 19:00
A little belated however I personally will now update you every three or four weeks to improve communication and try and allay confusion that has arisen in recent weeks.
Since we published our fixtures, as does happen occasionally circumstances change – and we are not always master of own destiny. The most explosive being the news at the dawn of the New Year that a planning application had been submitted for Belle Vue – which, if successful COULD have seen racing cease as early as October in 2019! However, we have worked literally 24/7 on legal aspects and garnering support since then which has quite literally left little time for anything else. Whilst the GRA have 9 years remaining on their lease, IF full planning was granted developers can invoke a 6 month notice to quite clause. We have now successfully delayed the application from being listed in March, April and May so far and worst scenario, we will see the 2019 season to completion. However, positively with the legal aspects we have introduced and the strong support, we have a ‘chance’ of this being deferred further or actually win in blocking the application. However there are no certainties in life and we have already commenced planning 2020 on the basis that Belle Vue will close. We have also in the interim evaluated two other sites, however these may prove to costly to pursue. All this has seen us drop the ball in other areas I am sorry to say and the workload has been exhausting and therefore I have been somewhat behind in communicating and changes.
Startrax thus far has enjoyed a good season with a great start back in February on a sunny day – we suffered the loss of a meeting in March due to bad weather which turned out the right call. However, regrettably it all went wrong after the visit of Storm Hannah for our Stan Woods meeting in April, well attended by drivers and fans alike despite 24 hours of non stop heavy rain – Not just miserable but painful and devastating that we could not put on the show the Stan Woods Celebration deserves as it is a much anticipated and ‘loved’ event together with the fact that the weather causes a cascade effect as plans have to be changed, mistakes made and quite literally everyone, staff in particular on site since 6.am just ready to go home.
In the end, no ones fault, everyone worked within the conditions for the show to go on as many had committed and travelled many miles and a meeting which if any other may well have been cancelled the day before. In 26 years promoting probably the worst weather I have experienced for consistent for 24 hours. As I say mistakes were made, not by intention, but some necessity and some circumstance, and I apologise for the conditions and changes.
However, less than 24 hours later drivers began contacting us, April 28th to be precise, and throughout the next 7 days ALL requesting we give some thought as to whether we could fit in the odl cars for a run out given so many left over or barely raced on the 27th – great idea but needed thinking through. There can only be one Stan Woods Celebration a year so we had a lot to think about including eventually having discussion with the Woods family to ensure and clear misunderstanding and that they were happy us allowing the old cars on track. We respect the Woods family and the memory of Stan and this remains dear to Jackie and I.
Being fair to us, within 7 days of the 27th we did inform drivers of our plans after so many requests, to re arrange fixtures and asked drivers for feedback as to two dates for consideration, 15/6 or 20/7 – within 48 hours 58 Unders and 32 Overs – a staggering amount provisionally registered their interest with most preferring 20/7. This took us to around 12th May, bear in mind our original announcement DID state that whichever date chosen would have to see us re arrange formulae originally scheduled for that date to a new date in the second half of the season – and I did also state this would take a few weeks as we would have to liase with Dave at Stoke and work around Speedway commitments. I thought this was quite clear, however in the last several days discover that quite an amount of confusion had arisen.
So where are we now ?
SATURDAY JULY 20th 3.30.pm is the PRE 75 ‘REPERCHARGE’ for Unders and Overs at Stoke – 90 cars are being accepted Pre 75 wise
Within the next week we hope to publish the full list – currently we are asking to drivers to reconfirm their bookings. It is planned to also run UNLIMITED BANTER [WQ Points ] car limit 40 on the same night and BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN
So for clarity – July 20th PRE 75 Unders & Overs – limit 90 + unlimited National Bangers BoB [WQ points]
NOTE: other formulae SCHEDULED that day to be re arranged later in the season and the date will be confirmed for this early July once discussions have been finalised,
Another change, given the possible closure of Belle Vue at the end of the year and its 21st Anniversary, in March I floated an idea for an Unlimited Banger meeting at Belle Vue – there has never in it’s history been a major Unlimited. I was when sharing the idea, expecting 40 maximum – and would have been happy with that, within a few days the meeting was FULLY BOOKED with 125 cars – ubelievable and bookings have been closed for several weeks and we will shortly update on that meeting, SEPTEMBER 29th at 3.30.pm – As a result, due to popularity, we again needed to move other formulae scheduled that day off for pit space and that date will be in October and notified early July.
So for clarity, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 29Th is now UNLIMITED BANGERS – FULLY BOOKED & JUNIOR BANGERS – FULLY BOOKED
Date for formulae scheduled that day now October, date to be confirmed July
I hope that clarifies the ‘why’s’ and more behind the scenes and much needed clarification.

Both the ‘M’s are looking after Social Media, Mr Goring developing the promotional side, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Matt Whittaker has taken over from Spike with regards bookings and developing the new drivers Facebook page. Both are new, Matt W is keen, willing but still learning and, inevitably as part of that learning curve and the issues in the last few weeks, there have been some mistakes, delays in confirming information. You will see changes in the coming weeks – I apologise, but please, my door is always open and happy to chat, your feedback is more than welcome. We will be changing the Drivers FB page to tidy up but will be used for bookings and communication.
Spike – has taken somewhat of a back seat over the last year to give him more personal time, however he remains for as long as he wishes to be with us and will continue to look after points.
